Specialised software is available for more advanced haptic & user interaction applications where the user can dynamically back drive each robot joint. Without this, and when the robot is either in power down mode or switched off – the joints can be very carefully and slowly back driven for certain setup purposes. Excessive back driving without the above software will place unnecessary wear on the gears.
