NeuroRobotics develop various bespoke animatronic based special effects robotics for various customers - employing our NeuroArm™ range of arms & specialised haptic interface. We were commissioned by channel 4 to supply a solution for the Space Cadets program

System Description

The controls that the operator use are totally intuitive in that as the operator moves his/her hand - the robot simply mimics what the operator is doing with their hand. i.e it 'traces; the wrist motion, the fingers gripping and the overall hand position depending on where the operator moves it ( using their elbow / shoulder etc). The operator effectively 'wears' the control on their hand and the robot just copies what they do.

System benefits

Due to the intuitive nature of these controls - there is virtually no training required. Once the operator gets used to it - they will feel that the robot on the set is actually their 'own' arm , or at least an extension of it.

The technology used within this type of control is based on our telerobotic / haptic controls that we have been developing for various applications.

This control does not require any specific preprogramming on our part, and thus eliminates you having to work out 'what & how' the robot needs to carry out before ordering a robot. The robot becomes an 'actor' copying the operator. This enables an almost infinite set of motions that can be just carried out as and when, without worrying about preliminary setups.

This setup requires NO PC , NO installing software etc. simply plug the power on , hand someone the controls (linked to the robot with a flexible umbilical cord ) and run them through a demo that anyone can learn. The controls have some simple adjustments to fit different sized hands.

If required we can fit a simple light minature video camera to the end of the arm that trasmits low power UHF tv signals to a local monitor enabling the operator to 'see' what the robot arms 'sees'.
